The 2022-2023 school year has ended and Happy Sacks is taking a break over the summer months. We are pleased to report that this year we packed and delivered 4,497 Happy Sacks to needy children in 5 local schools. The response from each school has been overwhelming, and their notes of gratitude and appreciation warm our hearts. We have you, the members of our Duluth First United Methodist Church congregation, to thank for providing the funds and food items that make this mission possible. Over the summer we will restock our cupboards and get ready to start again in August. Happy Sacks got its start in the fall of 2012, and we have completed our 11th year in mission to the children of our community. To date, we have packed and delivered 30,014 Happy Sacks to school children in need. We work in cooperation with the counselors of each school, who decide which children are to receive a Happy Sack at the end of each week. The food items help provide some nourishment for those children over the weekend. We are honored to be the hands and feet of our Almighty God who has made this mission possible – with your help, as well! We are happy to announce that Debbie Johnson and James Dykes, Sr. are joining the Happy Sacks leadership team this year. We thank them for stepping up in mission.
