United Methodist Women’s Christmas Brunch - “Why Me, Lord?”: December 9th

The United Methodist Women (UMW) of Duluth First United Methodist Church will present their Christmas Brunch and a program about Jesus’s birth from the perspective of Mary, Joseph, and a Shepherd, on Saturday, December 9th, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall.

Mary – “It all started that night when an Angel showed up…”

Joseph – “Why did this happen to me...”

Shepherd – “It was a cold night, the coldest night of the year…”

We invite women of any age to this lovely Christmas Brunch, and you can bring other women and girls as guests. We will have Christmas piano music as you arrive, and Christmas carol singing during the program. David Daniel and Kristen Shappert will provide beautiful Christmas songs for us. Mary and Joseph and the Shepherd will speak of their amazement as the Nativity story unfolds. We will have a delicious lunch and desserts. Please join us! There is no charge for the UMW Christmas Brunch.

We will take up a love offering which will be going to Fugees Family which helps child survivors of war rebuild their lives one step at a time by giving them the structure and support they need, through soccer and academics. Luma Mufleh, a Jordanian immigrant herself, first started coaching soccer teams and then established Fugees Academy for 6th-12th graders. The 86 students in Fugees Academy come from many different countries, and the Academy is housed in Clarkston United Methodist Church. The school’s curriculum is tailored to the refugees’ unique needs. It packs a normal K-8th grade education into 3 years of middle school. The 6th grade is the critical “catch up” year of transition, moving the child from functional illiteracy to a solid foundation of language skills upon which to build. They go deep into a subject to promote comprehension. The graduating seniors have gone on to college. Luma Mufleh and the teachers also support the families and make home visits to extend their compassion and love to all the family. Please donate your love offering for this amazing program!
