Women's Ministries

The United Women in Faith
The United Women in Faith (formerly United Methodist Women) is a sisterhood acting in faith to tackle the hard work of the world without hesitation. Driven by God’s love and united in sisterhood, we work to improve the lives of women, children and youth. Every day, we show up, take action, and get it done. We invite you to join us as we seek to connect and nurture women through Christian spiritual formation, leadership development, creative fellowship and education so that they can inspire, influence and impact local and global communities.

Over the years the United Women in Faith have had many name changes but still the same purpose.

Perhaps you have heard of a few:

  • 1869: Methodist Woman’s Foreign Missionary Society founded by wives of 2 missionaries sent to India. They raised money to send Isabella Thoburn and Dr. Clara Swaim to start a school and a hospital for women. Both of these institutions are still there today.
  • 1872: Wesleyan Service Guild
  • 1880 & 1890: Two Woman’s Home Missionary Societies form.
  • Early 1900’s: Ladies Aid Society
  • 1940: Women’s Society of Christian Service
  • 1972: United Methodist Women became the first women’s mission organization under the United Methodist Church’s Board of Global Ministries.
  • 2019: United Methodist Women celebrate 150 years of helping the underprivileged around the world.
  • 2022: United Women in Faith. Today as our name changes our legacy continues with the same purpose: to stand up for the lives of women, children, and youth.

We would love for you to join us in our projects, our service, our circles. Let us know how we can help you get involved by contacting Karen Smith at by -email at smith-ga@att.net or call 770-495-7978.

Announcements and Upcoming Events

"Women Studying Together" Lenten Study
The Women Studying Together Bible study group began a Lenten study on Thursday mornings, beginning February 22nd, using The Third Day:  Living the Resurrection by Tom Berlin. The Third Day is a unique study of Lent as it focuses on how the resurrection changed the lives of those who first heard and saw the Resurrected Jesus Christ—a world-changing, life-transforming event for them and for us!

Women Studying Together meets on Thursday mornings from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. in room F154, located on the 1st floor of the Sheldon Family Life Center. The Third Day study will continue through March 21st.

We have a great group of women with discussion led by Jenny Masterson. As we study, we ask questions, search for answers, share our stories, laugh and pray together. Sometimes, we even sing! We welcome all women.

If you would like more information, please contact Jenny Masterson by e-mail at jennybobm@comcast.net or call 678-591-0800.

“Sisters By Grace” Women’s Bible Study to Begin Study of C. S. Lewis’ “The Great Divorce” on Tuesday, March 19th
The Sisters By Grace women’s Bible study group will begin an 8-week study of The Great Divorce by C. S. Lewis on Tuesday, March 19th, at 7 p.m. at Lois Young’s home. This Biblically-based study offers flexible class nights for your personal schedule: Tuesdays or Thursdays.

The Great Divorce, a thought-provoking allegorical tale by C.S. Lewis, published in 1945, is based on a theological dream vision of his in which he reflects on the Christian conceptions of heaven, hell, and the choices we make in life. Through a fictional journey, the book delves into the nature of good and evil, the consequences of our actions, and the possibility of redemption.

The use of the term “divorce” in the title refers to the separation of heaven and hell, rather than a marital divorce. The main conflict surrounds the surrender of all earthly burdens to be in God’s presence. Some characters choose to remain in the shadows of grey town, clinging to their earthly pain rather than surrendering to God’s eternal love and brightness.

The Great Divorce challenges everyone to question their beliefs and consider the consequences of their choices. If you would like to participate with this study, please contact Lois Young at sisterbygrace@att.net. The deadline to register is Monday, March 4th. For questions about Sisters By Grace, this study, or about the class schedule, please direct your questions to Lois.

Bishop’s Call to Action
The United Women in Faith invite you to make a difference in our state. Bishop Robin Dease sent out a call to action encouraging people to write to their legislators to approve a bill to remove sales tax from diapers and wipes in Georgia. A sample letter and list of legislators can be found in the Narthex, the Atrium, or by clicking on SAMPLE LETTER and LEGISLATOR LIST. The list and sample letter will be made available to Sunday School in their mailboxes. We ask that you handwrite your letter and mail it directly to your legislator.

A big “Thank You” to those who donated diapers, pullups, and wipes to the United Women in Faith’s Diaper Challenge event held in September. A trunk load of donated items was given to Sheltering Arms in Lawrenceville, and they were greatly appreciative of the donation. They too are asking their parents to write letters to the legislators.
