United Methodist Women:
Celebrating Over 140 Years in Mission
The Methodist Women's Ministry is an organized unit of United Methodist Women and a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church. The Methodist Women's ministry offers short term Bible studies, book discussions, retreats, and various programs. They also participate in missions both locally and internationally. United Methodist Women’s Christmas Brunch -
“Why Me, Lord?”: December 8th
The United Methodist Women (UMW) of Duluth First United Methodist Church will present their annual Christmas Brunch on Saturday, December 8th, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall. The program will examine the birth of Jesus from the perspective of Mary, Joseph, and a shepherd.
The women of our church (of all ages) and their guests are invited to our annual Christmas Brunch. Enjoy Christmas piano music as you arrive and Christmas carols to sing. Dr. David Daniel and company will provide more beautiful Christmas music throughout the program. Hear the amazing Christmas story as it unfolds through the eyes of those closest to the event. A delicious brunch and holiday treats will be served. We only ask for a $5 donation to help with the cost of food. Girls under the age of 10 are free.
Our love offering will be given to Fugees Family, an organization which helps child survivors of war rebuild their lives, one step at a time, by giving them the structure and support they need through soccer and academics. Luma Mufleh, a Jordanian immigrant, first started coaching soccer teams and then established Fugees Academy for 6th through 12th graders. The 86 students in Fugees Academy come from many different countries, and the Academy is housed in Clarkston United Methodist Church.
The school’s curriculum is tailored to the refugees’ unique needs, packing a normal K-8th grade education into 3 years of middle school. The 6th grade is the critical “catch up” year of transition, moving the child from functional illiteracy to a solid foundation of language skills upon which to build. The goal is to delve deep into a subject to promote comprehension. Graduating seniors who have gone through the program have gone on to college. Luma Mufleh and the teachers also support the families and make home visits to extend their compassion and love to all. Please help us support this amazing program.
