Our Staff

Duluth First United Methodist Church is happy to welcome Rev. Terry Tippens as our new Senior Pastor. Rev. Tippens comes to us from Winder First United Methodist Church where he has served as Senior Pastor for the last 16 years. He has served churches in North Georgia in various roles as Senior Pastor, Associate Pastor, and Youth Director since his freshman year of college.

Terry grew up in Augusta and is a graduate of Duke University (B.A.) and Emory University’s Candler School of Theology (M.Div.). His wife of 30 years, Missy, is a published author writing inspirational romance, with 8 novels to her credit. They have three children: Nick, currently the Youth Director at Wesley United Methodist Church in Evans, getting married July 16th, and pursuing a Master’s degree in Digital Media at Georgia Tech beginning in August; Tyler, finishing his junior year majoring in physics at Georgia Tech; and Michelle, finishing her freshman year at Emory University. The Tippens family are long-time Atlanta Falcons fans, with season tickets for the last 28 years.

Terry is honored and humbled to be appointed Senior Pastor of Duluth First UMC, and he and his family are excited to be joining us.

Thank you for your interest in the ministries of Duluth First United Methodist Church. I am excited to be here to minister to you. My primary areas include Evangelism, Adult Education, Women’s Ministries and Scouting. As one of your pastors I preach, teach, perform pastoral counseling and all the other services necessary for our church to grow and thrive. I believe we are all called to be disciples for Christ by living our lives in a way that becomes the Gospel. The best witness you can give for Jesus Christ is your own story of how your life is richer because you know Jesus in a personal way. I’ll be happy to talk with you about how you can fulfill your roles as a servant in our church or in the world. I sincerely hope that your walk with Christ grows each time you enter the doors of our church.

As Minister of Music, I am called to prepare singers and instrumentalists to be music ministers for worship. And these ministers, in turn, lead the "great choir," the worshipping body, in songs of praise and worship, of prayer and commitment, of lament and sorrow. Sometimes we minister by encouraging all to sing. And sometimes we minister by singing and playing on their behalf. But whether or not we are all active in offering these gifts of music before God, we seek to offer songs which make us all participants in the Word through music.

I am proud to have served God’s people in a capacity such as this for almost eighteen years. My wife and partner in all things, Ellouise, has been with me all along the way, continuing to support me as I move through the process of ordination as a Deacon in the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church.

Ellouise and I have two beautiful daughters, Cynthia and Alicia. We have a full house (the four of us, three dogs and a grandmother), filled with love and activity. And we are so happy to be at Duluth First UMC serving this worshipping community.

Robin Parr is the Director of Youth Ministries. She is a graduate of the University of Georgia and Brenau University where she holds a M.Ed in English and Music Education. Robin is married to Dan and they have two sons: Daniel, who is married to Ashley and they have two children, Jaidyn and Izzy. Her younger son, Michael, is a Hall County Deputy Sheriff. Before entering the ministry, Robin was an AP English Teacher, Girl’s Fast Pitch Softball Coach, and Boy’s Tennis Coach for 15 years.

With over 25 years of experience working with youth, I have found that most teenagers are looking for a place where they find safety, acceptance, and understanding. Here at Duluth First UMC we give our teenagers a God centered place of learning, exploration, and love. Living in a world where their faith is questioned, I strive to provide youth a place where they can explore who God is and what God’s purpose is for their lives. Through this process, each youth learns and understands what is means to claim God as his or her personal Savior. They in turn ascertain what it means to be a true Disciple of Christ, a Truth that carries them into adulthood.
