Thank you for all that you have done to be together in some way during this time of difference and change. Many of you have continued your groups online using Zoom or other virtual sites, allowing you to keep in contact with each other, continue to study God's word, share your time and talents, and support others. You have used e-mail groups, calls to your class members, or social media to remain connected. We are very aware of your desire to return to meeting in person.
We want to make it all work for you in the best and most safe manner possible. As you are all aware the number of COVID-19 cases has dramatically increased recently. We have taken great precautions in the Sanctuary and Hinton Hall to implement safety standards that are in the best interests of all for in-person worship. Pews are blocked for appropriate distance between those seated, seats in Hinton Hall have been spread out, and masks are required. Hand sanitizer stations for your use are located near the main entrances of the Sanctuary, in the Atrium, near the entrances to Hinton Hall, and inside the back entrance of the Family Life Center. After the 8:30 Traditional Worship service the pews are cleaned before the 11:00 Traditional Worship service. The ushers do a fabulous job of seating people and directing them out at the conclusion of the services to avoid any close contact. It has worked well for the past three weeks.
The classrooms are not as easily managed and we have determined it will be prudent to wait until a later date to begin small group meetings. At this time our proposed date to resume all Sunday school classes - for adults, youth, and children, is Sunday, September 13th. Other small groups may consider meeting earlier if we can be assured that all requirements for masks, social distancing, hand sanitizer, and cleaning protocols after a meeting can be assured.
Upon resuming Sunday School classes and small group meetings, masks will remain a requirement in all classrooms, as will social distancing. The location and set-up of each class/group may need to be modified to meet the requirements and we may need to have an alternate meeting plan. Due to the configuration of our classrooms you will also need to pay attention to our hallways, stairwells, and restrooms, as these areas allow for possible closer contact. We will help and support you in all ways possible, including making certain the classrooms are cleaned between Sunday meetings.
If you normally have coffee in your classrooms you will need to work with Marilyn Scheiwe, Event Coordinator, to arrange for the airpots, along with cups and other items for your room. We will not have the coffee areas in the Fellowship Hall or Hinton Hall until we feel it is safe to do so.
Some groups may decide to continue with virtual meetings or may have a mixture of virtual/in-person for those who are comfortable with both formats. Rev. C. Kay Fuino, Rev. David Burchett, Rev. Beth Brown Shugart, and Ms. Leslie Yokeley will be happy to meet with you to determine the best arrangement and meeting schedule for your group.
Once again, thank you for your wonderful spirit of adaptation since March. You have been good and faithful servants in so many areas. We know everyone wants normal again, but there may be a new normal for all of us this year. Please do not hesitate to contact us if there is anything we can do to support your group.
Blessings and joy,
Rev. C. Kay Fuino
